We’re all pulling out our dark lipsticks for the winter. While some are going for the dark plum and berry shades, I am choosing brownshades this season.
Picking the right shade of brown can be a bit tricky, though.Going too matte brown can make you look like you belong in a ‘90s sitcom. And whileI do appreciate the ‘90s trends right now, it is 2013, so adding a modern twist is key.
Right now, I am really into creamy lipsticks with a bit ofshine, especially in dark shades.
I picked up two last weekend: Laura Mercier Créme Smooth Lip Colour in Cocoa and Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick inChestnut.
Both shades have a bit of shine to them and are very creamy. They are also very wearable during the day, which is always something I try tofind when it comes to lipstick.
My office isn’t about getting dressed up. Jeans, cargoshorts and flip-flops are the norm. It makes me sad sometimes, since I lovedressing up. And since my office doesn’t dress up, I have to keep my stylechoices very subtle, meaning lesslipstick and more lazy ponytails. I think I need a new job, guys. (Hi, Boss! Please don’t fireme!)
So basically, dark lipstick you can wear through casualdays is very important.
Smashbox’s Chestnut reminds meof mahogany. This shade is a subtle brown with red undertones, so it isthe perfect shade for those who don’t want to dive straight into the dark, richbrown.
It's packed with vitamins A and E, and sheabutter, so it keeps your lips moisturized for a long time. It also feels verylight on the lips.
Laura Mercier’s Cocoa is a rich, warm chocolate shade thatgoes on smooth and creamy. It seriously looks like you’re applying meltedchocolate all over your lips.
It is also highly pigmented, so a little goes a long way.You definitely want to line your lips with this shade. It can get messy if youdon’t.
I used Kevyn Aucoin The Flesh Tone Lip Pencil in Blossom just outside the lip line to create acleaner look around the edges.
If you like sheerlipsticks, Nars does a brown shade with plum undertones called Tanganyika. It’s very sheer, so it doesn’t pop too much and blends into the lip very well. They also have Fast Ride, which is a sheer mulberry. Both of these work verywell for everyday without being obtrusive.
What do you guysthink? Is brown too dated?
