I obviously love masks more than any other type of beauty product out there. They are a great way to solve occasional skin issues, keep your hands off your face and treat yo’self in general.
In particular, I love masks of the calming, moisturizing, sort for my dry, sensitive skin, but they never solve my other big skin issue: acne.
Acne masks, on the other hand, usually do a great job of destroying bacteria—but they destroy my skin along with it. Whenever I use a clearing clay mask, my skin feels a parched and raw for a couple of days.
But recently, when I was trolling the skincare aisle at the drugstore, I picked up Yes To Carrots Softening Facial Mask. It contains dead sea mud, kaolin clay, and zinc oxide: three ingredients that do a killer job of drying out acne and bringing down inflammation. They round out the formula with rich oils like olive, avocado, sweet almond, and jojoba to make sure those acne-drying ingredients don’t dry out the rest of your skin.
I spread it in a thick layer on my skin and left if for 15 minutes. Afterward, My skin felt smoother in texture, and I noticed a reduction in size and redness of pimples the next day.
It definitely lives up to its “softening” name. While it does contain lots of nourishing oils, the only downside is that it doesn’t give me that overall glow that straight oils or hydrating masks do. But that’s fine--I didn’t expect it to be a miracle product that could do everything. And since it’s only $15 bucks, I can afford to pick up another mask for that glowifying purpose if I want. (And lezbereal, I ain’t upset about that. MOAR MASKS. ALWAYS.)
I’ve also been incorporating it into my sebaceous filaments routine, and I find that while I still have to slather on a thick moisturizer afterwards, my skin doesn’t feel like a paper bag the next day. It definitely cuts down on the dryness.
Overall, if you’ve got dry or sensitive skin and have always wanted to try a clay mask, this one is a winner.
